Dioscorea mexicanaNative to the semiarid area of Mexico, El Salvador and Panama, Dioscorea mexicana is completely enticing with its strangeness. Its dome shaped and extremely fissured caudex, with polygonal plates which become more protuberant as the plant matures, produce vigorous, bright green vines in spring. The caudex itself can reach 90cm in diameter with age in the wild, while the vines can become 9 metres long. The leaves are likely to die back for the winter
